History of HT IP Law Firm
The Firm as the name of “MYANMAR TRADEMARK AND PATENT Law Firm (MTP)” was founded on October 18, 1995 as the Partnership Law Firm and officially registered in Myanmar at the Ministry of Commerce under the Registration no. 55/96 dated 19-8-1996. It was founded by two lawyers, Htain Lin Oo and Thein Aung at the time when there were only a few private law offices existed in Myanmar providing legal services relating to trademark protection. MTP was officially introduced to the International IP community on October 18, 1995 with the aspiration to assist with the competent skill in protecting IP right of the global business owners who rightly choose to expend their market in this fascinating Country MYANMAR, which is the 2nd largest in booming South East Asia, with the population of Over 50 million, situated in the advantageous geographical position, gifted with rich natural resources and a promising land of greater economic potential.
HT IP Law Firm (new name of Myanmar Trademark and Patent Law Firm)
In order to be keeping pace with the world’s advancement of IP the new chapter of IP protection has now been introduced with Myanmar. New IP laws of Trademark, Design, Copyright and Patent were enacted in Myanmar in 2019. Trademark law was enforced on 1 st April 2023 as well as Industrial Design Law and Copyright Law were respectively enforced on 31 st October, 2023. Patent Law came into force on 31 May 2024 by the Government Notification no.106/2024.
These IP Laws had been drafted in compliance with the international standards and norms. This salient change of Myanmar IP system has prettily attracted global trademark owners to get protection of their IP rights in Myanmar. As the scope of IP protection becomes wider and deeper in Myanmar we need to reform our firm in terms of recruiting new generation and setting up new structure in conformity with broader scope of services.
We have now proudly introduced with our new name HT IP Law Firm remaining unchanged of the original HT logo which is honoring and representing the two founders. This new name was officially registered in the corporate name of HT IP Law Firm COMPANY LIMITED at the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration in Myanmar under registration no.127649375 dated 25-9-2020. In spite of this, we will be using also the original name “Myanmar Trademark and Patent Law Firm” in respect of banking, clearance of accounting and taxation purposes for certain extent of time. We are now rendering legal services of protection of Intellectual Property rights for local and foreign clients Office at our office ROOM 303, NO.567, MAC TOWER 1, MERCHANT ROAD, KYAUKTADA TOWNSHIP, YANGON REGION, MYANMAR.
Since 1995 onwards, nearly (three) decades of proven quality service, our firm has become one of the leading IP law firms in Myanmar, having business relationship with over 1,000 law firms and companies abroad.
